Big River #3

Big River #3 is inspired by Southern Pacific #8, which ran in central California, which ran in eastern California's Owens valley. The distinctive whaleback tender was used by Pacific Coast and Carson and Colorado. The model is an extensively modified Bachmann Big Hauler. It it powered by a Pitman motor, driving a Barry's Big Train drive unit. Power is provided by a Makita 9.6 volt battery inserted through the boiler front. The speed controller and radio link are from Reed's in La Mesa, CA. The sound system is by Sierra. The chuff sound is synchronized to the axle. All the electronics are in the tender.
