Ties are ripped from heart redwood, selecting for the tightest grain I can find. I make them 3/8" x 3/8" x 4" long. The rail is Micro Engineering aluminum code 250 rail, painted with roof brown or rail brown from Floquil. I have also used some prepainted trail. Each tie is spike with four Micro Engineering steel spikes.
Rail joiners are made from 0.020" copper sheet. Since I use battery power, the rail joiners are only needed for alignment purposes. I double spike the end with the joiners.
