Complete #5 Switch

The frog is made from code 250 nickel silver rail, which allows the parts to be soldered together. All the other parts are code 250 aluminum rail. All the parts are spiked to redwood ties. Assembly takes place on the work bench.

Points are filed to shape and hinge on short rail joiners at one end. The outside of the stock rails are drilled for spikes in the area of the point, since there is no clearance on the inside. Points are pivoted on the brass tie bar with two small pins pressed into the tie bar. Two 2-56 screws are threaded into the tie bar to hold the points down. A manual ground throw activates the points. Since there is no track power, there is no need to worry about shorts or conductivity.
